Smells Like a Winner...

Another Monday...another amazing night of my life! Here I am once again on the set of Nashville Star watching all of the crazy behind-the-scenes action unfold as the contestants get ready to take the stage! There sure are a few less contestants running around backstage than there were just a few weeks ago, but it seems as if more people find their way back here each week. There are always a few kids running around meeting their favorite Star contestant. The contestants are always so inviting when one of their admirers makes their way back here. Everyone left in this competition really wants to win and you can just feel it. They are all so happy to be here and so ready for what is yet to come in their careers.

Shawn, Ashley and Melissa just sat down for a few radio interviews and I can hear Coffey and Gabe hangin' out in the back. There is this see-thru black curtain that separates the green room from the hallway that houses the contestant dressing rooms and it's always funny to hear what comes from behind that curtain. Each week, it's no surprise that Coffey will be in that hallway with his guitar playing one song after another inviting the other contestants to jam along with him as they pass by while working on getting themselves ready. Up until about two weeks ago, I always wondered what was going on behind that black curtain. If you look hard enough you can easily see through it, but it was nice just to listen to everyone warming up and goofing around. I spend most of my time here in the green room sitting on a giant comfy tan couch which can easily hold twenty people it's so large. It's usually pretty warm in here and not exaxtly the most the well-ventilated area in the theatre and I usually end up chugging down quite a few bottles of water before the show. I can usually handle that amount, but this particular week I just well, had to "go"! I nicely asked to be led to the nearest restroom facility, and lo and behold -- the black curtain was opened...I slipped in and was led to the men's dressing room. Now, at this point, right before the show began, there were a mix of men and women hanging out in this room, so I thought nothing of being led here to use the restroom. When walking in, I didn't know what to expect, but let me tell you, these clean cut NStar boys keep themselves, and their dressing room clean. It smelled like a bottle of cologne had exploded, but not a messy item was in sight. As soon as I got "situated" someone opened the door. A man walks in, sees my heels under the stall, and says "You're a girl!" I squeak out a, "Sorry," and hear him walk back into the dressing room telling everyone of my restroom "mistake." I quickly scurried to finish up and went to the sink where there was absolutely no soap, so I saw a bottle of hand sanitizer sticking out of someone's bag, so I snuck squirt and got out of there as soon as possible. Needless to say, I don't really wonder about what's behind that curtain anymore.

Well, the boys are out now. Coffey and Gabe are waiting to do interviews with CMT. Coffey just let everyone know that he is currently looking for a place in the Nashville area so he can stick around and continue to work on his career after Nashville Star. Gabe looks incredibly sharp tonight in a black blazer, something I don't believe that I have ever seen him in before. Apparantly it took a few tries to find him one that he liked, but I must admit, it looks great on him! Speaking of, Coffey definetley looks sharp tonight as well. Not to mention he just confessed his love for the Dallas Cowboys and I guess that automatically makes him my new favorite contestant! Ok, I know I can't be biased, and I can't exactly judge the contestants on their sports picks, but it's not something I'm going to forget. And well, this may sound a little girly, but umm...Gabe smells good tonight! I'd almost bet that he is the reason that the men's bathroom smells so good, but Coffey just sat down beside me and I'm thinking he may be guilty as well.

Everyone walks by asking if I am blogging about them, and I usually am. They all try to watch what they're saying around me back here, but they are all growing to trust me. It's getting down and I'm really missing some of the contestants. It's definetley getting down to the wire, but I'm so excited to see who's going to take home the Nashville Star title.

Oh, and did I mention that when I walked in tonight that the judges were rehearsing...no, not camera angles for once, but they were practicing their performance for tonight! Yes, all three judges are performing a medley of their own songs tonight and I got chills just listening to their rehearsal. Be sure to tune in tonight for another amazing night of Nashville Star!

I was just reading through the other comments, I agree that if this show ever comes back, I hope they have different judges and announcer! Jewell gets on my nerves! She is critical, which she is suppose to be, but I think she goes after the wrong things....and I will say this again, with all the money she has made, why doesn't she get her teeth fixed? She comments on looks all the time, she should take another look at herself......

I also waited to post a comment. I have to say I have been disturbed by the attack on Jewell about the seizure comment. You people are all sounding just like the news media and picking on a comment, twisting it into something it's not. Jewell was NOT making fun of people with seizure disorders. She was making fun of Sophie and giving her an unbelievable excuse because the girl would not own up to her attitude. Just quit trying to create an incident that didn't occur. Secondly, Jewell is way too successful to be dismissed as a no-talent. She may not be your choice but that doesn't mean she doesn't have talent. Also, one item says there were 6,000 people at Gabe's concert and one says 3,000; which is it? That's a bit of a difference. I guess I won't be visiting this site again - I didn't realize this was a venue for middle school children.

new season

Submitted by tedsgirl on Tue, 07/22/2008 - 9:22pm.

This season of Nashville Star SUCKS! Ive loved and watched it since season one. This years show plays out like a summer camp talent show in comparison. Billy Ray is the worst host Ive ever seen. I cringe when I see him. And the new judges are brutal to the poor contestants.
It seems like NS is trying to be more "american idol" like and is not succeeding.
The only real talent I see is Melissa and Gabe. I'd be happy if they make the top two.
I'm going to finish out watching the season but probably wont tune in if theres another one.
Too bad considering how many people I've expressed my pleasure about the show to. I am embarassed now to say I tune in, its that bad :(

Xpatriated Texan...i thought

Xpatriated Texan...i thought that the melody sounded very familiar but could not quite pin point what it was! Amazing that the judges didnt pick up on it.

I am so disappointed that Coffey is still on this show. He may have a nice voice but he is so not country and for all the talk from John Rich about not wanting "fake" ppl i cant believe they passed him through at all. Frankly I am disappointed in almost all the talent this year. or lack there of. There are a couple who I think are pretty awesome, but unfortunatley the show is not what it should be at all.

Jewel's Comments

Submitted by Shandy on Tue, 07/22/2008 - 6:06pm.

A few weeks ago Jewel asked Melissa Lawson and Sophie & Lauren(?), if they were "ready" for everything that came with stardom. I thought that was extremely condescending of her to say something like that. I expect a comment like that from a guy but not a woman. I was really surprised. I always thought very higly of Jewell but I couldn't believe she would say that to someone because she has 5 kids. It was wrong on so many levels.

Jewell, come down to earth and remember how much you wanted the fame. You are supposed to judge their talent and not whether or not you think they can or cannot "handle" what comes with being the Nashville Star. While commenting about whether Sofie & L were ready or not, Jewell should have been commenting about how one had a much stronger voice than the other one. Perhaps she could have been talking about Melissa's faces while singing rather than whether she was "ready" or not.

I guess you get what I'm trying to say.

last night's show

Submitted by pwebster12 on Tue, 07/22/2008 - 1:03pm.

Seriously guys? Coffey and Shawn or however you spell her stupid name are still on there while Ashlee got kicked off? In my opinion there are only three people that still deserve to be on the show and she was one of them while the two of them were absolutly not. Who is voting for those two? Ashlee was awsome and I really hope she ends up with a record deal, I loved her original song too, I think it was really cute.

The Judges and Other Stuff

I have already posted on another page, but wanted to say once again, how in heck has Jewel made it in ANY music industry, her voice is awful, I have never really listened to her, but I see I have missed nothing, and she judges others? somehow that seems weird. I hope that next year NBC puts the "Country" back in this show! I would not mind Jeff coming back, he has always been honest with each contestant and never nasty, he is professional, while the other two have no business sitting there. Judges should be folks like Dolly, Hank Jr, George Strait to name a few and bring back Wynonna!

Melissa was awesome and I hope she wins, everyone did well last night, Coffey is not country, however, but his song was cute.

Judge's Singing

Submitted by Twizzy on Mon, 07/21/2008 - 9:25pm.

OMG!! OMG!! I could not believe our ears. I had several people over for a birthday party and we all turned up the TV on the patio when Nashville Star came on. When we heard the judge's were going to sing we turned up the TV. The first judge out was Jewel, and when she started singing everyone started laughing. Her voice was cracking so much, and the whole crowd was laughing there heads off. One of the guys said, and she is judging others? Then all of a suddden my husband got up, and said lets go back to birthday party, and turned off the TV. So how and the heck did she sell records? Her voice was absolutely awful? Gosh Melissa Lawson sounds 300% better then Jewel does. Well good luck Melinda. You have a wonderful voice and we all loved listening to your new song you wrote.

Awful singing

Submitted by jillisue on Mon, 07/21/2008 - 7:27pm.

Jill

My dogs started howling when Jewel started singing, and Save a horse ride a cowboy is the stupidest song I have ever heard. Would the folks over at NBC please beep out John Rich's filthy mouth so my daughter and I can sit down and enjoy this show again? I pray he's not a judge next year. Who cares who wins thank God it's almost over.

Will Gabe be allowed rip off Sugarland?

Submitted by Xpatriated Texan on Mon, 07/21/2008 - 5:42pm.

He wasn't through half of the first verse before I told my wife, "If he records this, he'll be sued." It took me until the end of the song to remember the melody - Sugarland's "Love, Your Baby Girl".

Will Nashville Star allow someone to rip off the hard work of another artist? Whether intentional or not, this kind of stuff ends up in courts.
