Tonight...two will go home...

Here we are again, another exciting night of Nashville Star! Like a clock, I was sitting down here on the big comfy couch in the green room and Gabe sits down beside me asking how I am. He's such a nice guy! Then, just as soon as I call out Gabe on his clockwork timing, Coffey shows up to say hello as well. They are always so nice and welcoming to me backstage.

During the competition the contestants have no access to their families (as you saw on last week's show), their phones or computers, so when I show up in the green room each week with a laptop and telephone they all flock over trying to sneak a peek at what all of you guys are saying about them online. Being someone who basically lives my life online, I have a ton of sympathy for them being so sequestered from the online world, and the entire outside world as well. I smelled the strong aroma of Italian food and turned around to see Shawn peeking over my shoulder with a small plate of pasta trying to catch a glimpse of the sacred internet world. She sat down and showed me the lucky guitar picks that she keeps in her leather bracelet. She pulled out a hot pink one and let me know that up until today it was her luckiest pick, but after a rough rehearsal she grabbed the new lucky green one, snuggled the pink back into her bracelet and is going on stage with it tonight!

Shawn went over to do a few radio and CMT interviews and Tommy plopped down on the couch with the widest, brightest smile across his face just so eager to take the stage tonight. He took a few secs to tell me just how great of a week it's been here on the star set and how great it was to see all of his friends and family last week. Tommy also gave a little shout out to all of your Nashville Star fans! Click here to check it out now!

Also, Coffey took a sec to give a shout out. Click here to view it now!

Laura and Ashley seem to be a bit nervous tonight, but wouldn't you be after the critiques that they got last week? They are biting their nails...not literally of course...waiting to find out if they are going home this evening. Later on Pearl Heart came out and did a few interviews and I got the scoop that they are all playing electric guitars together tonight for the first time ever. Also, Ashlee let me know that she was playing a white electric for her performance. NS is rockin' tonight people!!

The contestants were all in a great mood tonight before the show, as always, but seemed to be more excited than usual tonight as it is coming down to the wire. It occured to me tonight that there are so fewer people here than there were just a few weeks ago. It's getting sparse around here and after tonight there will be two less contestants on the stage.

Tune in tonight at 9/8c only on NBC to find out which of your NS finalists will be sticking around and who will be going home. Remember, America votes and your vote COUNTS!!

thanks to john and jewel

Submitted by QFM07 on Sun, 07/20/2008 - 8:11pm.

someone has to say what the rest of the world is thinking (or should be thinking anyway). kudos to jewel and john for telling it like it is. the talent that NBC picked sucks(except Melissa and Gabe). the music industry is cut throat and if you dont have what it takes you need to be told.

this years talent is aweful and i am so sad for all who auditioned that are truely talented. this show should be about the best talent and not trying to boost ratings with different types of acts who are not up to par.

MY STAND POINT!

Submitted by Texas.M.B.K. on Sat, 07/19/2008 - 9:59am.

Okay these are the things that I think about the contestants that are still standing.. and the host and the judges.

Coffey- Good guitar playing.. Ok voice and he is very nice and down to earth but I don't think that being a big star is good for him and Savannah at this point.

Ashlee- I think she is good but Cowboy Take me Away was not a good song for her. She is usually a good singer and guitar player.

Shawn- Fantastic Singer and very interactive with the audience. Fun. And she is cool! All American Country Girl. Personally my favourite.

Melissa- Fantastic singer! She has the most extraordinary voice! 2nd Favourite.

Gabe- Awesome Singer! He is the best male talent!! He has a wonderful voice it reminds me so much of George straight... Plus he is from TX so that is an added bonus! :).

I don't think I am missing one.. or am i? I dunno but Here is my stand point...

Shawn- #1
Melissa- #2
Gabe- #3
Ashlee-#4
Coffey- #5 (Sry C)

Laura and Sophie.

Submitted by Texas.M.B.K. on Sat, 07/19/2008 - 9:45am.

I haven't ever seen Sophie or Laura roll their eyes at Jewel... I watched every episode and nothing. And I think it was terrible that John had to put it in the way that he did, National Television that she did that disrespectful roll of the eyes, that I have never seen no matter what they said... I think that was rude to just say and same for Jewel she said the word seizure and i was like, "What the heck!? That is one of the most rude things to say when it is the contestants last night on the show." I mean it was more of that than the judging with those two girls. And every time they judged... It had to do something with their ages. Yes we know they are young, but they are still good.. Yes they might be a few years younger than what they should be to pursue, but they shouldn't remind them of their age, they are well aware of it I asure you. But okay. Whatever. The show is still good but I think that the judges of this show owe Laura and Sophie an apology, She apologized for something that I had never seen her do! So now they have to apologize for embarrassing her on national tv... you know come to think of it... They were harder on that poor girl than any other contestant. I will continue watching this show, because i think it is very interesting... And i really do like the contestants they are really good... but I do think that that was a bad thing for them to do. But you know... hey that is show bizzz... :) Nashville Star still rules in my book! (Oh, and I am a hee-uge Shawn mayer fan!!!!)

NBC ruined Nashville Star

Submitted by ATL.Knows.Country on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 4:22pm.

I've watched Nashville Star every season and this season is the worst! NBC suits in NY wouldn't know Country Music if it bit them in the ass. Half of the contestants are so weak they shouldn't be on TV and the other half could not have won on previous seasons.
What's with the POP crap? NBC trying to reach out to other music fans?? That's stupid! There are more Country Radio stations in this country than any other format...because people love Country Music! Let's allow these contestants to sing Country and leave the Pop to American Idol. Damn, NBC ruined this show.
(And I like Billy Ray but he is a horrible host)

terrible season for Nashville Star

Submitted by knotsure_1999 on Wed, 07/16/2008 - 8:45pm.

Not being able to watch the show when it airs, I record it. After watching it tonight, I doubt that I will continue to watch this season. After John Rich's temper tantrum and Jewels comments to the teenage girl about having a "seizure" and then LAUGHING! SHAME ON YOU JEWEL! You just put youself on their age level. John Rich sits there and tries to be a real "bad A**". I went back and watched the recording of last weeks show. I really didn't see the girl do anything that I would call "disrepectful". I hope NBC pulls the plug on Nashville Star. This years show is just this pits. If they do not replace judges next season, I'm sure, which ever network televises the show will lose many viewers.

Worst Nashville Star Ever

Submitted by mk100678 on Wed, 07/16/2008 - 5:16pm.

I have been watching this show since season one but this will be my last. The change to a new network has ruined the show. First this is a country show so sing country music new or old I don't care. This season has had a complete lack of talent. From the first night their have only been 2 singers (Mellissa and Gabe) If Mellissa is voted off I am done.

Pearl Heart- for a family that has been singing together for years they never were in harmony

The high school girls looked and sounded like girls in a high school talent show ( a bad one)

Coffey - The only thing country about him is his cowboy hat and singing is not his strong suit

Ashlee - cute girl but needs to find some originality one Taylor swift is too much already

Judges
Need to stick to singing. They are rude and spend more time arguing with each other than they do judging the contestants.

Billy Ray I love him but he makes an awfull host. He looks uncomfortable ( maybe he just cant believe what a mess the contestants are )

Watching Nashville Star this year is torture. On every other season their has been at least 5 or 6 really talented contestants and others were just good. Not the case this year.

I am so dissapointed in Nashville Star!!!

Watching this show has been a family event watching this show but not this year. My mother and my husband also find this season torture.

I can not understand why John Rich is being slammed for asking for an explaination. If the girls were in school and rolled their eyes at a teacher they would not only be repremanded but they would have been made to apologize. Respect is earned it is not just handed out. Since when is it ok to allow children to be disrespectful? This may have been a hard lesson but Iam sure it will not be one that is forgotten. I recently saw John Rich at a concert and not only did he bring a newlywed couple and a couple married for 36 years on stage to toast them, but he also invited a little boy on stage because he was a very good fan. He was down to earth and very real. Keep doing what you are doing John you have a loyal fan base that will continue to support you.

Jerks

John Rich is a jerk, and so is Jewel. When did it become ok to just be mean for the sake of being mean? It's not ok, and I for one would like to see them both apologize, not just to Laura and Sophie, but to america for making us look bad. I usually roll my eyes too when someone insults me, just to let them know their negativity isn't getting to me. Poor little Jewel got her feeling hurt...cry me a river. She needs to remember where she came from, and John Rich needs to go back to where ever it is he came from, he's a no talent nobody...no wonder he got kicked out of Lonestar....

Judges!

Submitted by koleyo on Tue, 07/15/2008 - 2:09pm.

What is thier problem???? They are the worst judges i have ever seen on any show!! They give absolutley no creative critism or say good things. I can't stand any of them! i think this is the worst season of Nashville Star due to the judges and they way they set the show up! Its stupid!

I'd love to hear what Waylon

Submitted by Waylonfan on Tue, 07/15/2008 - 6:59am.

I'd love to hear what Waylon would have to say about this show. What a joke! First of all he'd kick Richs rear all over the stage, arrogant joke is what he is. Here today gone tomorrow, that's what they will all be. There will never be another Waylon...We miss you Hoss!!

too tough on jewel

Submitted by amybusby on Tue, 07/15/2008 - 5:00am.

Many of these comments have been way too tough on Jewel - was her seizure thing in bad taste. sure. But she was obviously trying to find a way to sort of jokingly give that brat an out after Sophie was called out on her snotty behavior.
The comment coparing John Rich to an aubusive parent? Give me a break - that girl was a complete snark who did not take the show or criticisms seriously. It is obvious that NBC stacked the show with contestants designed to appeal to certain demographics when the picked the finalists. Those 2 girls were obviously not up to professional caliber - vocally, performance wise, emotionally, or in terms of maturity.
I say good for you John Rich for calling her out on her attitude. If they are going to have that little respect for people - especially 1) an adult 2) a successful professional in their chosen field 3) a person in "authority" over them and 4) someone who is trying to give them advice / criticsm then they have no business taking away a spot that could have been used by someone with a real shot.
Good riddence teeny boppers. Go be snarky to your teachers or parents or whoever has brought you up to think that kind of behavior is okay.

You go JR - tell it like it is! By far the most honest, in your face judge on a show like this. Good for you.

Jewel (sp?)

Submitted by Julie Ann C. on Tue, 07/15/2008 - 1:01am.

I watch this show b/c my husband likes it. After the way Jewel and John acted tonight, I'll never watch NS again. Jewel is an immature brat (another word beginning with a "b" is more appropriate.) To berate these girls, for "rolling eyes", instead of critiqing their performance really shows how narcissistic and juvenile they are. Who can possibly respect these people after witnessing this?? I don't care if this is "Nashville Star" and it's a tough place... Does that means these grown adults can act irresponsibly and it's ok??? Those two just gave millions of people a look at who they really are...

Jewel

Submitted by Twizzy on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 9:30pm.

The comment you made tonight about rolling your eyes back up into your head was disgusting. You should be ashammed of yourself. Your not a good judge anyway, and as far as I am concerned you should be taken off the show for good. Jewel that was terrible to make such a remark, and you have hurt alot of people because of it. You should go down the list of comments and read them. It should make you wake up and realize that just because you sit in that seat you need to be careful what you say to others. You can be a judge without making comments like that. I am personally going to write to the producers and talk to them about it.

Jewel's stupid comment

Submitted by lv27 on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 9:23pm.

Great job Jewel, how better to show maturity to a couple of teenage girls than to make fun of people with seizure disorders. I would really like a replay of your eyes flickering rapidly. Next time someone roles their eyes at you, act your age and choose your words wisely. MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Singers and Judges

Submitted by newcountrygal on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 8:31pm.

I felt badly for Laura and Sophie tonight..however, that is how nasty any music, film, modeling, etc..industry can be. That is what they have been saying all along. They seem too young to handle what the industry is about. Not everyone is fair, not everyone is nice. You have to have a thick skin.
Take Melissa for example, I thought she rocked tonight but the judges had some criticisim for her and she took it like a woman. She said her thoughts, didn't argue and said she would look at what they said.

My favorites are still Melissa and Gabe. Coffey seems like a genuine guy but he needs to go.

As for the judges. Jeff Steele kicks and he's nice to look at to boot !!! ;) I like Jewel and I like Rich when he is being genuine and not acting like the big kahuna. IT craked me up last week when he got all embarassed with Melissa.

Anyway, those are my two cents. Keep up the great work Melissa and Gabe, and Jeff Steele you just keep doing what you do....LOL

Also, how come no one does old country favorites form Dolly and the like?

Sophia & Laura

Submitted by Alissa on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 8:14pm.

I have been watching this show from the beginning and I have watched two of my favorite singers Sophia & Laura go from a great friendship, chemistry and harmony to a frustrated & aggitated duo that did not have the same chemistry as when they started. Tonight when John Rich reprimanded them and "demanded" an explanation, it reminded me of yet another time when an abusive parent just berates a child down one more notch. I am not suggesting that people should not show respect for one another, but week after week I have watched John and Jewel throw out nasty comments not only to the contestants but even to each other on the panel. Before this show I liked Jewel's music and Big & Rich music. Since I no longer like the character I see between "you all", I will no longer be contributing to your careers. I will be the judge for my money. I do, however, like the chemistry of the judges on American Idol-even Simon so I am not saying you cannot be constructive but I feel you two are just snotty and rude. I don't usually do this but I hope those two girls bond better than ever and go back to the great harmony they had from the first day. I don't agree with the eye rolling either, but I truly think it was just a reaction and not meant to be a disrespect to anyone. I feel they were under a lot of pressure at this young age and all the contestants should be handled with the same respect that John demands for Jewel.

I have watched this show once and after tonight I will never watch this show again. Jewell I hope that if you have children or if you are going to have children you never have to see them or anyone else have a seizure. Your comments and actions disgusted me,and your total disregard for people that have seizures is beyond my comprehension.I am the mother of a child with epilepsy and I dont think what you said or did was right and your ignorance was shown by your comments tonight. I hope that you or someone you know never has a seizure because you have no clue!!!!!! Maybe next week John Rich should ask you the same question about why you disrecepted people that have epliepsy on national T.V. Like the other ladys comments you both need to grow up.

John Rich, Billy Ray & Jewel

Submitted by arlamaree on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 7:35pm.

Aside from Billy Ray being totally out of his element, now we have have John being a Big A!# on the show! If something is wrong with the attitude of a performer it should be dealt with at the time it happens rather than on national TV A WEEK LATER! do you have kids? Is this how you discipline them????? Oh how effective that must be. GET READY FOR EXPENSIVE THERAPY BILLS... Granted whatever happened, happened on national TV, but, I guarantee that it was long forgotten by the viewing audience. If given the chance I'm sure the young lady would have apologized more sincerely than when she was ambushed during their "performance critique". This was a very distasteful & unprofessional way to handle it John. I just convinced my husband that you were a good guy, honorable and passionate about your business and town. So much for my efforts. My husband was right after all You would never see Garth, George Straight, or Alan Jackson talking this way to people. I can't even imagine what George Jones was thinking ( who by the way was never shown on camera) I am disgusted & disappointed. I will Tivo the rest of the show so I no longer have to listen to your comments. I was also disappointed in Jewel response talk about and ambush and then you cut Jeff down as well GROW UP! Both of you acted like children

Applause to Rich

Submitted by drawls73 on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 7:34pm.

I am so glad Rich made that comment to Sophie. I saw her roll her eyes at Jewel. I've been a big fan of Jewel's since she recorded her first album. I thought it was so disrepectful and immature the way Sophie acted after she received a critque from Jewel. What an opportunity to have someone like Jewel give you advice. What a waste for her not to take some constructive crictism from a professional and talented artist.

No Talent

Submitted by gordyfam on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 6:40pm.

Gordy Family

Melissa is the only one on the show that can sing half way decently. Coffey is pitiful. Nice guy but he really can't sing. Ashlee is only there because she is getting the guy vote for being cute. Overall we are disappointed with the talent on the show this year. Oh and Billy Ray needs to stick to Hannah Montanna; he is a boring host. As to John beratting the girls tonight over last weeks behavior, I agree that is was unprofessional and should have been addressed privately immediately after the incident occrued.

How out of line were John Rich & Jewel?!?!?

Submitted by magpi on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 6:36pm.

I have been a huge fan of Nashville Star but after tonight, not so much!

John & Jewel were extremely out of line to humiliate Laura & Sophie on National TV like they did... And what was Jewel's ridiculous comment about Sophie having a seizure?

While I realize Sophie was out of line for rolling her eyes, you are both supposed to be professional mentors looking for the next true Country talent. It is truly sad that you felt the need to stoop down to that of sixteen year old girl who just couldn't take your criticism.

SHOCKED

Submitted by truetomyself on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 6:15pm.

I never write in to these things but I was so shocked by what I saw and heard I had to. I agree that Lauren and Sophie were way out of there league here and maybe never should have even made it on the show. However, the comments made to them by John Rich and Jewel were more than disturbing to me. These girls are children/teenagers. That is what teenagers do. When confronted they roll their eyes. John and Jewel should have known this and not said what they said to them on National TV. It brought then down to a level that a mentor or any one with basic parenting skills should have known better than to do to a child. When you are cast as a mentor you have the responsibility to not only mentor them as musicians but as adults. I saw none of that tonight. I am much less of a fan of John and Jewel after seeing the less that tactful attack on these two children.

Kudos to Jeffrey Steele for saving the moment and bringing back the show to a comfortable level. You can tell he has children is a true mentor.

Submitted by livluv4lif on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 5:00pm.

Bring it on!!! I have been watching NS since it started and this season is really sad. Laura and Sophie better go home tonight, or I can't watch another episode. Ashlee is very original, reminds me of Jewel in a lot of ways, she rocks. Jewel is my favorite and I am from Alaska too!!! I don't even hate her for canceling when I had tickets. Anyway, everyone else is just ok, but Melissa has a great voice, and Shawn is too fake. Gabe, hang in there and do some Vince Gill or Keith Whitley, you have a nice voice. This is a country show not pop!!! The judges are great and honest, I respect their information, but not the competition with each other.

CMT SCHEDULE IS NOT ACCURATE!

Submitted by payasita8 on Sat, 07/12/2008 - 6:42pm.

I travel a lot and miss the Monday episodes on NBC, so I have been trying to catch the repeats on CMT. This web site says it airs on Fridays on CMT at 9/8 CST, but that is not the case. It definitely did not come on last night at all. I was really disappointed to miss it... I went on CMT's web site it says it came on at 4:30 yesterday? Would someone please correct the schedule to match CMT's? Thanks!

I love this show... wish it was easier to catch it!

This show's gone to the crapper

Submitted by FedUp on Fri, 07/11/2008 - 5:50pm.

What the hell has happened to the show? Pop Goes Country? And then the judges are surprised that people don't sound country. They're perpetuating the pop instead of promoting the country. Hardly anybody is singing country. Opening the show with Madonna? Come on.

I doubt I'll be able to stomach the rest of the season. It's not worth it. You guys should've stopped after season 2. It's been on a rapid downhill slope ever since.

What a horrible waste of air time. Maybe NBC isn't the place for a country show.

Billy Ray would probably sit like a bump on a log if the teleprompter failed. He's got about as much life in him as a dead rock. Is it just me or does he look like Bill Clinton? At least Jeff and Jewel are ok. John flip flops more than a Democratic Presidential candidate.

The one good thing is that they got rid of that moron Cowboy Troy. What a joke he was. Please, bring back Nancy O'Dell at any cost and some contestants with REAL talent!!

Boy I bet you could really do a number on a song like "Red Necked Woman". You have quite a following in the Detroit Michigan area including "Da Fam" and VinDetta. We all wish u the best of everything as we know you can sing. It's obvious you're dedicated to be the best you can be, so keep working hard and good things will come from it. To be one of the last surviving performers out of the many thousands who "auditioned" is something to be very proud of. Remember, your mentors on the show have warned you about the music business being a very tough business, and although their comments may seem to sting a bit, they are experienced mentors trying to give constructive advice to help you. I am sure they want you to succeed and are trying to give you advice that will be helpful to your success.

Pearl Heart should not have gone home! Anyway, here are my 2 cents on winning songs ...

Melissa - Independence Day

Ashlee - Suds In The Bucket

Shawn Mayer - Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain

Coffee - If I Lost You - Travis Tritt -- sing it to your daughter ... show 'em you are country!

Gabe - Whiskey Lullaby

Laura/Sophie - Travelin' Soldier

I Love Ashlee's voice, I've heard her before and she is TRUE Country.... ya'll just wait till she gets to sing more country songs for you. Besides Ring of Fire, she hasn't sang anything real country. But somehow she makes every song she sings sound like a country song. Ashlee....your doing awesome keep up the good work! Can't wait to watch again next week.

Nashville Star Has Gone Pop/Rock/Whatever ??

I have faithfully watched Nashville Star every season, and have really really enjoyed it. This year, I have to force myself to watch it. Maybe if the contestants would actually sing country songs (gee what a concept), then I could actually get an idea as to what kind of "country" star they may be.

Definitely not impressed this year!

I think that Melissa may take the competition, I enjoy her voice and she just looks comfortable onstage, I hope that she continues to do well and be there until the end. I think the last two will be Melissa and Gabe, and honestly they both deserve to win.

Laura and Sophie need to go home, I have not enjoyed one of their performances! They would be best served working with professionals, growing up and then try again, and lets remember the eye roll, bet she does that to her parents.

The others are working hard I know, but I have to agree with the judges regarding Coffey, he really is not a country singer, but he can sing.

Billy Ray, please hon learn to read the teleprompter and make an effort to sound sincere! You say the same thing to every performer, a good person to take lessons from is Brooke Burke from Rock Star-Inxs.

Over all I enjoy the show, NBC could do a little more work for next season, especially with the host and hostess, she is weird, too nice and friendly, Ugh

I can't believe that two of the better performers were in the bottom 2, and we sent Pearl Heart home. The two girls, Sophie and whats her name, were correctly criticized by Jewel, and Rich.. I believe they cannot at this time even be compared with Ashley Hewitt, or Pearl Heart.. I really think you should bring back Pearl Heart for an extra shot, because they deserve it! Thanks for making that a possibility. It really would make for a great surprise.

I agree with Jewel. I can not believe that Laura and Sophie are still there and Pearl Heart was eliminated. Although my favorite to take the competion is Gabe, and I think that this is really a two horse race,Pearl Heart really poured it on last night even though it was too late. Laura and Sophie are two young and cannot handle the criticism that they will have to contend with in the music business, and its just my opinion but I don't think they can really sing, too many sour notes, just like their attitude. When everyone else was smiling because they had survived the night these two girls were pouting because of the judges comments. It is time for them to go home! Some people think the judges comments are too harse but I believe they have been right on every week. I mean why be a judge if you aren't going to be honest.

Gabe, Melissa, Ashlee and Pearl Heart ROCK!

I do not like Coffey's voice/vocals
Shawn appears to be too phoney
Laurie and Sophie do not sign well.

I hope Pearl Heart goes on to knock 'em out in Nashville.

The judges are right-on each week

Just my opinion.

I am always partial to the underdog,I am cheering for Laura & Sophie or is it Sophie & Laura. My suggestions for them is to adopt a name and of course I would like to suggest"TRUE" for them because it will serve to unify them as a team and get rid of the name game. It may work for some old comedy acts but they need to identify with a purpose for their music. My next suggestion is to sing "I will always love you" beautifully done by Dolly Parton. It would be great as a duet with them leaning on stools next to each other with a single spot light.
