Nashville Star has Idol beat

Submitted by aintmatilda on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:57pm.

Nashville Star has Idol beat in many ways. It would have it beat if the judges had more personality. They lack a balance between criticism and encouragement, among other things. It is as if they don't realize they are on national television. The contestants are really entertaining and many are very talented; too bad America didn't get to hear more from those eliminated (prematurely, I'm sure) by these judges.

Just like the performers, I'm sure they will get better with time...we hope.

Thank the Lord for Billy Ray; his kind-hearted way and enthusiasm is bridging the gap.

One more comment and no more criticism, promise:
Was there no IEM system in place or personal monitors at all? Even Taylor Swift was flat; in fact, there were many contestants as good if not better than her! It is evident that most have great natural talent. Let Jewel or John get out there w/o an IEM & we'll tell them how they "rank!"

Sophie & Laura

Submitted by shelldaye on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:54pm.

Those two young girls showed the other groups
what harmony is all about. Their performance was classy and looked so professional. They were great!

Potential star

Submitted by martinrebel on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:47pm.

What will be great to see is the progression this young Justin Gaston will make on this show. Justin is relatively new to being on stage, but he has everything it takes to be a star. His talent, ambition, and character will carry him far! Enjoy the ride, Justin!

I agree...Charlie should have stayed and the Reba-wanna-be should have been sent packing.

Hey Gabe it's Joe and Jenn here in San Antonio, TX! We just came from Lytle, TX and everybody was there to show our support. You sounded awesome and looked great. Thanks for all the dances!

Charlie

Submitted by Debra Flanders on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:42pm.

I enjoyed your singing and I thought that you should continue. I wonder if enough people send in messages for you, will they let you come back? I hope so. You are the only one that really got with the crowd and fans loved it. Keep doing what your doing and someday I hope to buy your cd. I never thought they would send you home tonight.

GABE GARCIA

Submitted by j.bagwell@grand... on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:39pm.

Gabe is the best. He really knows how to throw a party. The crew at CPS supports you. Is Zane gonna give ya any plugs? Best wishes, Joseph & Darla.

Charley Jenkins

Submitted by PAPA JOHN on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:37pm.

I thought the judges missed it when they sent Charley Jenkins home. I thought he had engery and was a fantastic singer. I could tell the crowd was so into his music. Everyone loved him. Sorry judges, but you made a mistake here in my opinion.

Charley, you were incredible tonight.

Loved your performance.

Melissa

I won't be watching the show anymore. The best real country western singer on the show tonight, was Charlie Jenkins. I can't believe you kicked him off. Well I'm ticked off, no more Nashville Star for me. Bye!

Melissa Lawson rocked the stage tonight.I think that she and Gabe were the top two performers of the night.Although I do not agree with Charley going home tonight I think tha tit should have been the other one(I forgot her name)oh well can't wait to see how the next show goes.

Melissa and Gabe

Submitted by Debra Flanders on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:29pm.

I think Melissa and Gabe are really good. Everyone did well. I have not voted yet because I am torn between these two. I have been in talent shows all my life and I know how hard it can be on a person. I know all of you were afraid. But you all have a chance to win. So go far it and give it all you got. Go out there and sing your hearts out. Give the fans all you got. The judges will see who wants it the most. So bring it! No matter what happens, never give up your dream. Your all stars to me.

how are you suppose to vote?

Submitted by moltimve on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:27pm.

Submitted by grandmakaren on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:27pm.

I think the Judges are on something they voted off one of the best singers of the night.
I am not sure I will watch the show again because I felt the judges were not at all fair to charley. Why would you not want him to work the crowd.
May be they better play the tape back because out of the two the girl should have gone.
Hope it gets better.

Bad choice on judges

Submitted by bradley13lucky on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:26pm.

I like the show and everything and there's alotta people that got talent but I just don't agree with sending Charlie home, I know jewel mentioned that they gotta think about whos got the most potential to be a nashville star and I just don't think allison has it, Charlie Just seems to have one of them voices yeah the song choice was poor and so was alot of the choices by others but in the end you want something different and pure, I think John rich had it right when he was saying allison, It just disturbs me a little that Jewel is a judge, just coming over to country from pop I just love country music to the core and does jewel really know country music like everybody else maybe I'm just being a little judgemental sorry for your luck charlie hope to see you in Nashville someday!

COUNTRY MUSIC

Submitted by Connie on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:22pm.

First off they are all great and have made it this far. But I am disappointed that Country music is not what it used to be. I realize that there are all kinds of music, but it appears that Country is just not Country any more. I wish that these singers would look back into the roots of country music and see if they could at least match that and bring it back to life. It would be so great to hear the Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, George Straight, Johnny Bush, just to name a few. Thank you for letting me share my personal thoughts and I do wish each and every one of them the best.

Billy Ray - GREAT HOST!! Very mannerly - yet very
tactful. Everyone was great. Judges will have a very hard job this year. I have watched every year -
the talent this year is the best ever on the program. You judges did a fantastic job picking these contestants.

So Disappointed!

Submitted by shelldaye on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:19pm.

I'm so disappointed that we cannot vote up here in Canada. We love country music up here too! Gabe and Melissa were terrific and if I could vote I would vote for them. There were a few contestants that made me wonder how much country music they've ever listened to. But I'll keep watching and hope that NBC will remember they have viewers up here too.

I think Melissa was AWESOME. Charlie should of not been voted off. Mrs. Gilbert needed to go and I only live 30 minutes from her home town. Anyway, GO MELISSA!

Judges JUST MADE THE WORSE DECISION

Submitted by tifftang18 on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:16pm.

I really think that the judges really just messed up by sending Charlie home. Charlie has an awesome personality, and I really liked it that he got in the crowd in his performance. So what he was trying to act like Garth Brooks, according to the judges, but how many platium albums does Garth have? Exactly! I thought that there were others that could have been in the bottom two. I just lost total respect for Jewel. I know that she was put on the line, but I also believe that John had a little bit of that decision. He just talked to Jewel way to much through out the show. Many other viewrs may disagree with me, but I think that Mr. Charlie Jenkins should have stayed this week. He had everything needed to become the next Nashville Star. He had the looks, voice, and personality! Sorry Charlie but I already programmed your number into my speed dial! Lots of luck buddy!

Ok........ I have to say that I am not completely impressed with the choices of contestants this year. Where is all of the talent? Is this the "REAL" Nashville star? I can honestly say that so far this year the vocals are completely lacking from what they have been in previous years. I am hoping that it picks up.
Anyways, Can anyone tell me where they are hiding the voting at on this site???

Go Melissa! Go Gabe!

Submitted by nichirenlady on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 7:12pm.

They all get my respect because there's no way I could get up there and do what they all did!

HOWEVER---I gotta say that Melissa Lawson and Gabe Garcia are my two favorites.

Why do the judges eliminate someone when all will be voted on after the show? I am confused.

Where do we vote?

Contestant Ages

Submitted by colorpro on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 6:43pm.

It was discouraging to see the show was cast with all young people. I auditioned with my friend, and YES, we are both in our forties, but, NO... THIS IS NOT (personal) SOUR GRAPES!!! My friend can SING circles around me!!!!

I don't understand why age limits are NOT "set" for auditioning if there is no intention to "cast" a contestant representory of the broad age spectrum of auditioning hopefuls.......create your "own" venue NBC instead of trying to dup FOX's "AI"....

Here's a thought for something fresh and NEW....."Geezer Idol" and it would probably be a hit!! lol

At any rate, Good Luck to the finalists, may their dreams come true!!

what do we think so far?

Submitted by jannao on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 6:40pm.

It's a little karaoke-ish...maybe they're just nervous. So far, it should be fun.
The military salute was awesome.

I absolutely Love it!

different

Submitted by legallypink90 on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 6:24pm.

It is definitely a different array of contestants than normally on this show, but I guess maybe it is because they have a new tv station and judges.
We'll have to see. . . . .

Right people off???

proud to see it, thanks

Submitted by sora-spring-djrail on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 5:47pm.

So far, I'm proud to see the dedication shown to the men and women fighting for our country, I'm young and don't know much about this world yet, but I do know that these men and women fight for us and deserve more that just an applause. Billy Ray Cyrus trully is a good choice for the host. The judges are good choices to, they'll be harsh but that is what is needed most for a show such as this. It's nice to see that country is not a dying musc and never will be, thanks!
