Country

Submitted by rhit96 on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 6:35pm.

I thought this was suppose to be for a Nashville star, but Melissa should be on Broadway, to me she is not a Nashville singer. Also, the star singers tonight, I watch this because I'm a Country fan, not pop. If I wanted to hear this kind of music, I would listen to MTV

tonight

I just wanted to tell everyone that contestant 2707 and 2708 was the best contestants on the show tonight. The judges are wrong about 2707.

WHAT??????

Submitted by chanteuse on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 6:17pm.

Are you serious? I am APPALLED at the talent....or lack of....that I see on the show. Tonight is my first time to watch it...ever. I can't believe it. These people are average....AT BEST! Come on America!!! It's time for a change! BRING REAL TALENT BACK!!!

Voting

Submitted by RiverKitty on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 4:00pm.

I think that people are callin in and votin fer whoever they think is real purty or most handsome and that just aint right. America ya need to vote fer who have talent!! There were to many of the ones who can't sing or dont have a good stage presence that got more votes than the ones that actually deserve to be on the show. I also believe there is a lot of suckin up being done on the show by the contestants to the judges.... and they need to be clued in that its the votes that send ya on not the judges they are there to coach you along and give ya there expertise. I have been a very avid fan of Nashville Star from the first season and yes in every season i have been shocked in some way.... that is to be expected... but never disappointed as i am this year. Also why are there so many rock songs being sung??? Its supposed to be about COUNTRY MUSIC!!!

quality of the show

Submitted by kat1960 on Fri, 06/20/2008 - 7:40pm.

I read the comments and will have to agree. I've watched the show since the very beginning when Buddy Jewell won. The previous sessions have had talented contestants from the very beginning. I do not see that caliber of artists this season. Yes, I understand that in the beginning the contestants are nervous and their true abilities may not show. But come on now, the performances are no where near the quality that they should be. I'm willing to give them all a chance and hope they improve. But, . . . I will not vote for any individual or group that cannot show they have the ability to become a true country (Nashville) star.

Country music

Submitted by Debra Flanders on Fri, 06/20/2008 - 6:58pm.

I have been reading comments since the beginning of the season. I agree that the contestants should be singing country songs, not pop, not rock or any other music except country. It is Nashville Star right? Let us hear Reba, George Jones, George Strait, Travis Trent, Allen Jackson, Terry Clark, etc. They are country music singers. I waited all last week to get to the the show Monday and I was so disappointed to see Melissa at the bottom. At least 4 others should have been there before her. She is one of the best singers on the show. But that is what I think. Supposely it is out of the judges hands now, it is up to us to vote for the people we want to make it. So lets all vote and stand behind the person we want to win. I wish you all the best on the show. I could change my mind yet.

"A NASHVILLE STAR CHALLENGE"

Submitted by michellewhisman on Thu, 06/19/2008 - 8:04am.

First and foremost, how many family members does Charlie Jenkins have. He was terrible and I was embarrassed for him. I chose him as the first person who would be voted off of the show. Wearing a cowboy hat and wranglers doesn't make you a country star. Second, Third Town couldn't spell "harmony" let alone sing it and deserved to be voted off of the show. Anyone who would compare Third Town to Little Big Town is either tone deaf or on some really good drugs. I have been singing with my family for over twenty years and in that time have learned that music isn't merely something that you do, it is something that you are. I have great respect for anyone who chases their dream but these people need to wake up; the dream is over.
Finally, does Nashville Star accept challenges? How about you John? Would you accept a challenge? I would be willing to put myself or my brother or sister, singularly or as a trio, up against any one of the remaining contestants. One song! One shot! No record deal, no money; just for general principle. America deserves to hear what you passed on. Come on guys.....lets do it!!!! We are ready whenever you are!!!!!

Thanks!

The Real Music Business

Submitted by michellewhisman on Wed, 06/18/2008 - 7:12pm.

First of all, I have always been a fan of Jewel and I believe John Rich is a fantastic song writer. Unfortunately we are all finding out that having talent doesn't automatically make you an expert at hearing it. My brothers and I auditioned for Nashville Star as a tribute to our Father. We lost him in 2005. When we heard that Nashville Star was allowing trios, we jumped at the chance. Our Dad always told us we could go places together that we never could separately. Looking back I can't help but think he planned things that way. So we would always share that common bond and depend on each other. He was a professional musician for 40+ years and one of the best saxophone players I have ever heard. I realize that there will be some people out there reading this and saying to themselves...."Ah she's just upset because she didn't make it." The truth is, I'm not upset. We did our best and made it all the way to the call-backs in Nashville. I think we did our Dad proud. What does upset me is that the producers of Nashville Star actually expect the American public to believe that the contestants chosen for the show were the BEST!!! out of all of the auditions. Come on people.....use your common sense and trust your ear. I can walk into a bar on Saturday night and hear better singers. I honestly don't know why these people were chosen, but it wasn't for their talent. The music business is a cut throat, break your heart world and only the strong survive. For years we did nothing but practice because we wanted to be the best that we could be. We rehearsed songs for weeks before we performed them on stage. I am proud to say that in three years time we were billed with Allison Krauss and Union Station. Our Father was a perfectionist and he pushed us. For no other reason than because he believed in our abilities. Thanks to him, our harmony is so tight, you can't tell where one voice starts and another one ends. Of course we can't expect everyone to like our sound, but when it's good, you know it. We were disappointed when we didn't make it, but it is going to take a lot more than that rejection to break our spirit. I am amazed that professional musicians chose these contestants and I can't help but ask myself why. I know it wasn't because of their talent. I am 38 years old and was raised on music. I know talent when I hear it. Just because someone sings in the shower, doesn't mean they are star material. It is flattering to be bested by someone truly talented. It makes you want to work harder. On the other hand, it is heartbreaking to be passed over for someone who couldn't win a second rate Karaoke contest. I understand now what my Dad meant when he told us "It's not always about what you know, but who you know." The most disheartening fact of all is that there are so many talented people out there who will never be heard because of some underlying political agenda. God gave us a gift and our Father taught us how to use it. We will always Love music no matter how many times our hearts are broken or we are disappointed. The real music business is filled with heartache and disappointment and sometimes it is hard to stay strong and believe in yourself, but I can say, without hesitation, that I would put either one of my brothers up against any one of these so-called performers. We have played until our fingers bled. Fought the heat and the cold, And ate more bologna than anyone should have to. We've paid our dues with blood, sweat and tears for longer than most of these contestants have been alive. If their mediocrity represents what country music is about, then I am happy we are not in their company. I think NBC should be ashamed to call this a talent competition and I thank God I have the sense to know it's a joke and not take it too seriously. If you doubt it, even for a second, listen to Patsy Cline, or Martina McBride, or K. D. Lang. Listen to the Eagles and Diamond Rio. What you will hear is true talent and it is undeniable. To all of you who have put your heart and soul in to music; strived to be better; played for free just because. There are three hillbilly musicians in one little corner of Missouri who still believe that matters, and who will be cheering you on next year!!!!

Where's the country music?

Submitted by kmp632003 on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 9:26pm.

I'm a big fan of country music and that's what seems to be missing this year. There's no stand out country performer in this group. Next week's "Country goes Pop" is kind of ridiculous. When does the country go country?

Contestants

Submitted by DavidCossey on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 3:06pm.

Please return Nashville Star to the format whereby an artist with natural country ability and desire can be acknowledged, (i.e.) Third Town thought they could do BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (QUEEN), what? this was a slap in the face to the faithful watching NS...

Jewel hosted a couple of years ago, what is she doing to set this straight, has N.S. Been bought out by USA Network... PLEASE return to the country roots as Gabe Garcia sings of....

Looking forward to next week

Submitted by barbi85062 on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 1:47pm.

I will be looking forward to next week - There was such an improvement this week (even in the Guest Star, in my opinion) that I think with Mentoring they should just keep getting better each week. When there was a voting thing before the show started that asked why you were watching - I said because I wanted to see the contestants get better and better. What fun would it be if it was the same performance each week.
Melissa is my favorite and I love her original songs so I can't wait for Originals night to come.

Last nights episode

Submitted by muscleshoalskar... on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 12:59pm.

I watched Nashville Star last night for the first time this season. I wasn't pleased. Most of the singers seemed very inexperienced, voices not fully developed. It sounded like bad karaoke at times.

This Year

Submitted by cbrown on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 12:09pm.

I have waited all year to watch Nashville Star 2008.
I have been a faithful follower each year and have always picked the winner. What is up with the show this year? If being on NBC has caused all of the changes and lack of talent, go back home boys!!!
So far the songs have been awful and there is not one "great" talent stepping up to the mic. In the previous seasons at least half of the performers could all walk away winners. This year I'm not sure there is a single performer worthy of the title.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Give us back our old Nashville Star!

could be better but ....

hey all josh from vermont here, just wanted to make a few comments. First of all id like to defend this show for a couple reasons, one being people are comparing it to american idol when really there shouldnt be one. For starters american idol has been around a while and clearly they dont care who they put on there. second the judges dont know crap about music. maybe paula a little but other then that its all about who looks better and might be a idol to more people. nashville star has judges that are all in music and have been there a long time they dont suck as judges they are giving sound detailed advise and criticism and thats the harsh reality of the music business. Just because they dont always say the things public wants to hear doesnt mean it sucks. Plus nashville star doesnt hand out music contracts to the top five. U either
got it or u dont. I am a musician myself and i take my music seriously, and im sure all the acts on nashville star do to. They might not be cut out for country music but atleast there trying. And sadly its not going to end up in the favor of the best i can see it right now. If anything i believe the judges should get to have a certain amount of veto's where if they dont think a certain singer should go they should have the right to keep them. I mean look at that sanjiay or how ever u spell it guy from idol he shouldnt have even been on that show. At least jewel hasnt slept with any of the contestants. I wish i had a shot to be on this show, id represent very well i was raised on rock hard country willie and waylon cash and so on and love john rich and mr steele (dance dance twister sister) thats a hopin tune anyways i think the people watching this show may not be totally happy with it but they are the same people that sit on there ass every time and watch it at least these people who are on there got off there asses and are trying to make something of it if i could afford it id try out and id snub my nose to american idol cause thats not real artistry its a pretty face and best voice not best show best discipline good luck with the rest of the series and to all those on the show really pay attention to what those judges are saying they know what there talking about they know what it takes win or lose its a lot better criticism then ud ever get on american idol all they know is how to get drunk and sleep with contestants, be big shot producers with fast cars and make obnoxious remarks, and oh yeah they know how to be rich and use weight loss systems and wear flashy jewlery

What a Disaster!!!

Submitted by nikkiladner on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 11:04am.

I completely agree with you all on this season!! IT IS TERRIBLE!!!! The producers picked bad judges and they picked bad contestants... To me, none of them can sing good enough to make it through.... It will be an interesting season just to see who manages to make it all the way through..... I'm very disappointed with the song choices that they have chosen so far... as far as next week 'country goes pop', they've been singing pop songs from the beginning..... i don't know what the producers were thinking, but they need to stop and think again and revamp the show.... i know that it will lose lots of veiwers this season if it doesn't get any better.

producers pay attention

Submitted by bbjones on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 9:45am.

Hey Producers! Pay attention to the posts on this site! We want our old Nashville Star format back! No duos, no groups. No hateful judges, no countrified-rock-songs, and NO posers!! It's not too late to rescue this season before you lose all your loyal viewers!

Unwatchable!!!

Submitted by sjonesguitar on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 8:35am.

I was looking forward to this season of Nashville Star...thinking since it was on NBC it would have a bigger budget and be a bigger deal. But it's unwatchable!!! It's obvious the selection process had nothing to do with finding real talent. The judges come across like jerks. The contestants are either singing "hoakie" country songs (Elvira) or taking pop songs and giving them "hoakie" arrangements (Hey There Delilah). The producers of this show should resign or be fired immediately and start this thing over. It's disgraceful!
