We need to be focusing on the real Country Music and not Pop Country I don't care for it at all. It seems to me we don't hear the real country unless we go back in time to the 50's, 60's, and early 70's. Country music has swayed from country sad songs to something else Pop and sometimes even rock. I love the George Jones , Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline , Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells. I could go on and on but there you are thats real country. I am a singer and wherever I sing they want to hear the real country. Please bring back that old country sound people are still listening to it.
Another thing if your looking for duet groups that should be another show because the competition is so great that duet groups are taking away the limelight from the other singers . They should be competing against each other and not the single singer. I really don't know what you were thinking when you put the group singers on Nashville Star

Last weeks show was getting closer to the old Nashville Star. Some of the songs still didn't belong, but closer then the rest of the shows this year. The judges are still down right mean to the contestants, I mean come on, there is a way to let some one know you are not crazy about their performance, with out slapping them in the face. These judges need to take major TACT courses. Some of the contestants don't sound country, but the judges aren't good mentors... either do they. It was nice to see a face of the OLD Nashville Star...Blake Shelton, remember the year he was a judge?...now that was great country!

I can't believe how bad NBC is handling this show. WAY TOO MUCH POP MUSIC. Enough said.

This is got the be the worst Nashville Star show I have ever seen...I can't even bring my self to watch the all 2 hours !!!It hurts to much...Any body out there like me , that would say, if we had George Jones, Willie Nelson and the late Johnny Cash as judges WHAT WOULD THEY SAY OF THIS POP GOES COUNTRY?
If we wanted to see another American Idol we would watch that. This show supposed to be about about Country Singers..I haven't seen that yet..Shame on NBC and all the producers that changed the show.!!!WAKE UP AND LESSEN TO WHAT THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE REAL COUNTRY MUSIC WANT !!!

I agree, this year Nashville Star is terrible,if they keep this up, no body will be watching anymore..The only votes the contestants will be getting will be from family and friends...I know I will not be watching next year if they don't go back to REAL Country songs and get rid of those duos and groups.

Okay, maybe I'm getting old, but this entire show is NOTHING about country music! Since when do country singers have purple hair, tatoos, etc? The show also needs to get off the 17-year-old wonder fad and put some solid country music talent on the show.

I'm getting tired of John Rich plugging Jewel's records and music! Gee, who produces Jewel's albums? John Rich. Jeff Steele does the same crap all the time for artists that sing the songs he writes. The whole show is a commercial for the judges. Do people really think Jewel is country? Not. Who is the next judge? Bon Jovi? I wouldn't doubt it.

Billy Ray Cyrus needs to learn to read the teleprompter better, quicker, and with more emotion. I guess he is trying to ride his daughter's success.

Thank God for DVRs so I can FF through the lame parts (which there are a lot of).

Stop your losses now NBC, American Idol holds the crown for talent shows. I'm not into the music on American Idol so I thought I'd give this show a chance. Yuck.

I thought the show was terrible this week. I hope it will improve or I'm afraid I will turn the channel on the next show.

What has happened to Nashville Star? Are they really looking for a country singer? It's hard to tell. What a disappointment this season has been so far! Even the sound is not good. I liked it so much better when it was on USA - I think the talent was so much better then. Seems most of the songs the contestants are doing are not country. Thank God we have George Strait, Tim McGraw, etc. to keep the country in country. I guess it really doesn't matter who wins though because we'll probably never hear them on the radio just like the others that won "Nashville Star" in the past.

Everyone is sayin that Monday night sucked, but it was not the contestants' faults, it was whoevr had the stupid idea 2 do pop goes Country night! really I luv Tommy, but I've got 2 say that Gabe was the best on Monday. I thank that they just wanted 2 C how good they could change a pop song 2 make it sound country, But it totally blew up in there faces! But I still luv Tommy Stanley!!

As I've read previous comments, I believe most of us are thinking the same thing. Monday night was horrible. Country is country and it should'nt go pop, even in a competetion. John Rich needs to learn what constructive critisism is and use it. All he is doing is bashing the contestants. He himself isn't a great country artist whose songs aren't great in my opinion. When he advised the one group of girls that they should do more recent music like Taylor Swift to sound their age. I believe that Taylor herself isn't original and I myself would'nt want to be acting like and singing her songs in ths competetion. I'd be doing older stuff, even Martina McBride. And Jewel, I don't know what her deal is and why she is getting called the queen of such music. She crossed over from pop and never should have. She's had one song I believe so far. This show is getting really overrated and a joke! Billy Ray is probaly the worst host I've ever seen on any show. It wouldn't surprise me if next week they had Country Goes Rock or Country Goes Rap. Seriously, we need more Miranda Lambert's on this show. That's a girl that can sing country!

That show was absolutley horrible. And who was that group that performed? They were no way country. That was the worst performance that I have ever seen. The judges are so mean this year! Jewell should not even be giving comments. She was POP first and then crossed over...What is that all about? She has no room to criticize. And John Rich is mean. I think he is not so talented himself. You do not have to be that mean to these poor contestants....If I were on that show and they belittled me that way, I would have walked... So, I am thinking that this show is not going to be watched in my household anymore. Simon Cowell is not even that mean!

I watched the prior Nashville Star shows on USA network, and the current show appears to have lost focus. No longer are we seeing talented country song writer and performers, but rather kids with good voices that are being set up to be molded into a less original Taylor Swift. Miranda Lambert may have been a young kid when she was on Nashville Star, but she was already an accomplished songwriter and performer of real country music. [By the way, even with her being on the show, she still needed to pay her dues in Nashville.] The fact that pop music is being encouraged before even Bluegrass songs or more traditional Country Songs demonstrates the lack of desire of this program to find a truly genuine Country music talent. John Rich should be ashamed for being a hypocrite by participating in this sham of a show after the tough statements he has made in the past about being an advocate for finding genuine authentic country music talent. However, I guess I should not be surprised after his CMT show where he selected Julio Iglesias Jr. as a country music talent. I suspect next weeks episode will be heavy metal and foul language rap music each going country. I wish this show would return to a format more consistent with the first two seasons on USA network which were truly genuine, interesting, and enjoyable.

I have to agree with most of the comments that I have read so far. I HATE what they have done with one of the only reality tv shows I watch. My daughter and I have watched the show and supported the artist for several years. This may be the last year that I watch it. I HATE the cheesie dancers....Billy Ray is awful as a host, hello can you be any more obvious about reading the teleprompter...I am guessing that the judges are the only ones that where not busy all summer...I like John Rich and Jewel...but lets be honest...how much infulence can they really have in Nashville. The whole formate of the show is TO HOLLYWOOD. True country fans are sick of the "crossover crap". We are dieing for some REAL country. Gabe might be the shining star out of the group.

What has this world come to when a Country Music show doesn't even sound country anymore. There are maybe two or three people that deserve to be on the show. If this is how the show is going to be, I won't watch next year. I think the judges need to pay more attention, because not everyone on there sounds even close to being country. This show has gone down hill on planning and talent. I was raised on country music and this show like it is now, is an insult to true country music and what it stands for.

Let's focus, deep breathe, and try again. Bring back the star, NASHVILLE STAR, the show of the past 4 years, pure fun to watch.
Some of these singers are awesome, Melissa and Gabe, they deserve to be where they are, even Charlie sounded more country than most of the rest of them. But I got to give 'em credit for pursuing their dreams. I don't know if I'll be patient enough to put up with the crap to see the finale, so Good Luck to both Melissa and Gabe and may the best person win!

What has this show gone to?? POP on a Country show!!?? I miss the original Nashville Star, the one where there was actual talent and not pretty faces for ratings!! I'm sure Matt Mason and Chris Young would not have even been looked at this season!!! This is horriable, I don't know if I can even watch the rest of the season!! Year 5 and it has gone right done the drain... not so much because of the talent.. although I can't believe some of it.. Melissa is great, and I like Shawn, she has guts... Some of the contestants are true Country but not all! PLUS - DANCERS?? and VERY LITTLE Country Music!!

Plus guest star performance by "danity kane".. WHY??? They are not even COUNTRY!! no wonder some of the contestants don't know country, when the producers can't even has performances by real country stars!

What about the judges? and the host? come on...

I heard very little country in some of those songs!! and I am not just referring to tonight's episode but the last 2 as well.. I tried to give it one more shot, but I am done.

What a joke this show is!!! The lady doing her "red carpet" interviews is lame! The solid gold dancers are stupid! Danity Kane????? what the hell???? The show has gone completely to the sewer!! NBC has tried to make a country american idol and it does not work at all!!! Nashville Star is country and the last few seasons have been awesome, this season sucks big time!!!!! Someone really needs to pull this out of the fire or it will go down in a ball of stinking, flaming, no viewers, disaster, free-fall, worst show of all time. Bye bye bye to this show.

Tonight's show is a perfect example of what's wrong with today's country music. Whatever happened to real country music???

My husband was a top 10 finalist in the auditions in the first Nashville Star competition. He was very proud to be a part of a country music series. He sang one cover song and also a song that he had written. There doesn't seem any challenge now. Anyone can sing cover songs. In my opinion a true artist can not only sing but write and play an instument also.

I like Billy Ray Cyrus as a person but as a host of a national tv show he falls short of the mark and how about mixing the judging with traditional and today's country music stars and producers which actually would make it more fair.

There are some very talented artists on the program this year. It is only a shame that they cab't sing country music.

Watch next week for the commercials. Then write the companies and let them know you will never watch again!

I will agree that Jewel is not country. I even wondered if she is "dating" someone in Nashville or what? How is she getting these gigs?
Also, the judges are taking the criticism to another level, being Simon wannabees. These contestants are human and they are doing their best and do not need the Simon treatment.
BUT, I will say, what is wrong with America--putting the best singer on the bottom??? (Melissa) Come on America.

I do believe there are a few really good contestants on the show this season. However, I do not feel Billy Ray is a good host. He looks at the camera and is reading a script when talking to the contestant. If you are talking to the contestant and asking them a question look at them....not the camera. It just seems very fake.

I don't usually comment on shows this way but from what I've seen so far I felt I had too. So I go online and guess what, the majority of comments convey the same feelings I have. I WAS a fan until this year. I missed the season when Buddy Jewel won. Then I started watching because I liked him. Chris Young was fantastic. Last years winner, I can't even remember her name, I just know her brother should have won. THIS YEAR??? I don't see how there could possibly be a "Nashville Star" out of this group. There is no way I would ever believe these were the best you could find. I waited all year to see this again and boy am I disappointed. And what is with Danity Kane??? There is no country there. I won't watch it live the rest of the year. I'll use my DVR so I only have to watch the good ones,OH wait, I'll probably be skipping the whole show and watching the commercials. YOU ALL REALLY MESSED UP THIS YEAR. Contestants, I'm sorry for you all, they really set you up for a fall.

I chose Melissa Lawson from day one and she has definitely come thru! (And as far as the comments, the producers stage the show-the contestants had no say in the pop song thing)--Melissa has the strongest, most country voice.

Someone needs to light a fire under the hosts butt!! Billy Ray needs to stick with his singing. Not the best show on TV.

Okay, I don't post comments on these sites....until now. After watching the past two shows, I felt it necessary to login into this stupid site to reiterate everything everyone has already said....

This season is horrible; it's not country!! The judges are horrible and the producers have done everything possible to destroy what little bit of country was still left in today's "country music". If you were listening to any of this music from across the room you would have no idea you were listening ot a "country music" program.

Who the hell is Jewel to be giving country singing advice?? She may have "went" country...but she still doesn't sound country when she sings. Just because you throw a steel guitar and fiddle in the mix...doesn't mean you you are country. I've been a country musician for 20 years...pro for 10...and the way I see it is Jewel isn't country...never will be.

I hope the producers and directors read these comments.

What has happened to Nashville? why do they think they have to imitate "IDOL"? If you are going to be a Nashville Star, who cares if you can sing Cydi Lauper or not? Try singing "Stand By Your Man" Now that is a hard song to sing....try it. Low to High. or "I want yo out of my head and back in my bed" by Loretta Lynn.

NBC, you have really made a joke out of what was a good country talent show. Billy Ray is not a good host (he pauses way too long to make announcements - talk about a pregnant pause!). Please, please take this show back to its roots!! After tonight's bad attempt, I am not sure I will watch the rest of the season - it sure is coming off of our DVR schedule.

What happened to the Nashville Star program that I have watched and enjoyed for the past few years? This year's show is definitely not what I expected. Tonight's show was a joke. I did not enjoy it and I think you have forgotten what the name of the show is:
Nashville Star not Pop Star. This was the worse show I have ever watched that was supposed to be finding new country stars.

The first couple of seasons of Nashville Star were MUCH better... real country. This season is over-produced, full of "did he/she really say/do that?!" moments, and barely relevant to the country scene. America is not this stupid. Please stop trying to pass this junk off as country and focus on the REAL spirit of country.

John Rich is inappropriate and doesn't belong on the air. He does not provide any useful feedback and I just feel unfomfortable with the comments he makes about the women. It's just creepy.

Billy Ray... can't... read... cue.. cards... His jokes aren't funny. I feel sorry for him every time he appears on the screen.

Thank goodness for Jewel's profoundness - she gives really helpful comments, she tells it like it is, and yet she's still inspirational to the contestants. Jeffrey Steele is also a huge asset to the show. His arrangements tonight made the show watchable for me.

What is this crappy show with background dancers and "country" versions of pop songs we could care less about? What happened to country music? Don’t we have enough fabulous country songs for contestants to sing? This show has always been better than American Idol – what happened? My Mom and Aunt just called complaining their favorite show isn’t worth watching anymore. You’ve just lost three long-time fans of the show.
