A “star” isn’t necessarily the greatest at what they do or the one that most fits some preconceived profile, but someone that performs in a way that is so uniquely them, that they without a doubt claim ownership of whatever it is they are doing. It’s mostly the unquantifiable characteristics that thrust them out from the crowd and into the spotlight.

I have seen Ashlee out in the woods hunting, rifle slung over shoulder, with hair and makeup done immaculately as if ready for a night on the town. Not in some facetious, prima donna manner, but in a still honest and down-to-earth way which was uniquely her and in a way that since a child has pushed her a step above of the rest. I have seen her and her sisters go into dive-bars and small local establishments all across the Northland and absolutely enliven the moribund masses, myself included, and after one set make lifetime fans. And on Monday night, I saw Ashlee walk out there on national TV, in front of millions of viewers and completely and without a doubt own that stage and that song in a way that only she could have done. Regardless of who wins this competition, Ashlee Hewitt is a “star”.

Gabe all the way....he is true country. I feel like I'm in a Texas honky tonk when he sings.

Melissa has worked very hard and has done very well. She is a great singer. Gabe Garcia also does very well. It was a hard choice to make as to which one I wanted to vote for. They are both very talented and I wish them both the very best of luck.

I think Mellisa Lawson is the best female contestant, with a great voice, looks like Wynona Ryder but she will come in second maybe third, but Gabe Garcia by far is the true Nashville Star. He's got the voice, the talent and lets not forget he blends in with Kenny, Tim, and Brad with that Cowboy Hat Look. It doesnt matter who mentors Gabe it could be John Rich, Jeffrey Steele or Jewel, he is the one singing up their every Monday, and I know we havent seen the best from him. I was so disappointed to see you in the bottom two the first two eliminations. From the first day I heard you sing in your try outs for Nashville Star, you gave me goose bumps. I even get emotional when you sing. I am so glad America got their act together to see how good you really are. As long as they keep voting on your voice and not the size of our pants, I know you will be #1. I am from Minnesota and wish the best for Ashlee, but as good as she is, you are better and deserve to be in the #1 spot.

I haven't heard a voice like hers since Mamma Cass with the Mama & Papa's 1960's singing group. Keep up the good work girl!!!!

Melissa definitely wins this one, hands down, and she has the voice and the charisma and the smarts to go on to be a true star. I was so mad when she was in the bottom 2 at the start of the second episode...I knew people were just not looking at her talent, they were just seeing an overweight over 30 mother of 5. Age and size don't matter when you have her kind of dedication and soul...look at Wynona. Heck, I'm in awe of any woman who can pass the auditions and get on the show, and lose 67 pounds before the first show...you go girl!! But don't count out Gabe getting a record contract from this, provided he gliltzes up his image and loses the guitar except just once in a while. Hey, mijo, stop hiding behind that git and strangling the mike with both hands to keep from crumbling. Flash those teeth and swing those hips and flail those arms. Lose the beads and the undershirt, get a slick haircut, and put on some tight black pants, a crisp new shirt, a leather jacket, some steel toed boots, and a belt with a big silver buckle. Instead of a small town adobe saloon singer, show us the real Texican wanting to get outside that shy exterior. You already have the voice, no question. You CAN be the first really big Hispanic country music star! Hey, glad to see the pop stars and the pretty boy and the teeny bopper girl acts and the motorcycle mama barfly and the pageant queen slowly but surely getting the boot. The bottom line if you want to be a star is what Melissa knows and the judges and the fans know that she knows...that hey, this is a business that you're going to have to get serious about if you want to make it. She's lucky that she came on in a year when there were really only two REAL talents, but she could have held her own against a really good bunch of competitors. She's got the savvy and the natural born talent to sell a lot of records. Gabe, take lessons from the lady and listen to your fans.

She is by far the best. She has that all around voice. She has the voice that when she opens her mouth you get goos bumps. Good job and keep up the good work.

I decided that this was my last week to watch this show as so far I was not caught up in its "talent" but after last night I am Melissa's fan and will watch her win. She is the show now, including the judges and I will buy her album.

I have watched you sing for years girl Don't give up! you have the real country voice and that is what it is all about COUNTRY MUSIC!

I have only tuned into a couple of episodes of the show this year, but so far it has been a huge disappointment. The talent level is not what is has been in previous years and that is a direct reflection of the people who picked the contestants. There are two that are good singers Gabe and Melissa, and a couple others with some talent but the rest are ordinary at best. John Rich can slam American Idol all he wants but at least the majority of people on that show can sing. It looks to me like Nashville Star has chosen to copy some of the things that AI does. John Rich may be trying to be the Simon Cowell of Nashville Star but he is a poor substitute especially with his limited credentials. He is probably one of the most arrogant men I have seen in my lifetime. He may be a good song writer but he had to resort to a Barnum and Bailey act to have a singing career - is that the country he keeps talking about. By the way if Melissa Lawson doesn't win this I will be very disappointed - she has a great voice.

I have grown up on country music my entire life & can see/spot a "True country person/singer immediately!", & Melissa Lawson is the true new Country Star!!!!, as far as Jewel goes auh NOOOOO!!!!!!, she couldn't make it in Pop so she decided to try her hand @ Country in order to gain that "God all mighty dollar"!!!!, I can't stand someone who does this, COUNTRY, JEWEL IS NOT!!, she needs to go back to POP, but on the other hand she left for a reason, they didn't want her either, so Melissa when you sing remember you are singing for all the under-dogs out there & don't let what Jewel say's dis-courage you ok girl. GIVE THEM & HER HELL!!!!

Melissa should be the next Nashville Star! She is a true singer, has her own style and is country...country...country. She has done a great job at each challenge thrown at her throughout this competition. She is consistent, has a great range, great voice and great personality!

I thought this show was called Nashville Star, well lately I've began to wonder. I am so glad that the judges have woke up to tell Coffey and Tommy their not country. Then Coffey got so upset. Well it doesn't matter where you were born or raised, Country is in your heart and soul. Coffey is trying to bring R&B into country music and it sounds terrible with all that rolling of the notes, can he stay on one note for over a second, Hey Coffey, you're not Mariah. And as far as Tommy goes, thanks for serving in the military, Proud of you for that, but in my opinion, you're also a pop singer.

Keep it up girlie and you'll be the next Nashville Star. I cannot WAIT to see Lauren & Sophie voted off.... tonight they called it "high school talent". How about absolutely NO talent?

The music drowns out the singing all the time. You can hardly hear the singers' low tones. Please turn up the mike. Also, the studio has a terrible echo. It might be nice to really hear what the contestants sound like!

I have to agree somewhat about the experience the judges have or do not have regarding country music. I am knocking them down because they are obviously doing something right in order to have hits. BUT, the fact does remain that they are not exactly what you would call "paying your dues" country musicians. BUT, in the same respect they are on top of what society wants to see and hear these days. The younger and middle aged do not want to hear the old country anymore. They want upbeat musicians that look good and that are talented. So in that regard, I give Ashlee a thumbs up because she does not only look good on stage, she sounds good on stage and as the weeks go by she is becoming more of a "Star" as John Rich mentioned than just a good country singer. Also- Melissa just plain rocks the house. No matter who the judges are, the fact remains that any suggestions that come from any STARS whether Country, Pop, or Rock. I would take them and learn from them!

If you were judged for being country, you would not have made it past the first week. But I love B&R and the unique style. Pearl heart sounds about as country as Tommy yet not a word to them...why?

what a brutal night for the judges and just tearing the hearts out of the them tonight. they must have forgot they picked this group. this is the most raw group of talent since this show has started. years past have been much more experienced and better. granted they could be worked with but i do not see a hit out of any of them anytime soon.
